Old homes in town, fixing stuff and enjoying being outside.

Where are we today ?
Plattsville Ontario

Was a tad chilly this morning, about 2c (35f) but when the sun came up things got warmer. Walkabout town for a while this morning enjoying the fresh air and quiet in town. Took a few pics of some nice older houses still in town. Pretty all the bricks for the yellow homes were made right here in Town at the Plattsville brick yard. There is a new subdivision now where it once was. They all have a particular stamp on them.

United Church
I have been told Sam Platt's house 1800's =
 Sam Platts Village= Plattsville
Now there is a couple small subdivisions with new homes and people moving into town , making this more of a bedroom community. They work, eat and shop in Kitchener, Cambridge, Stratford, New Hamburg or Woodstock all within a 20 minute country drive. Amazing how small towns evolve. No support here for the local businesses. I know I had my restaurant here for 10 years for 1989 to 1999 and so many people stopped in to realize that I was in town but went to the big cities instead! Go figure? My food was cheaper and was very good (according to my customers) but that's how small towns die. Big box stores take over and Ma and Pa operations go away, so sad.
When we are travelling we always frequent the small town businesses because if we don't they will be gone.
After lunch Suzie went to visit her Dad again and I proceeded to look for a piece of wood to fix our floor where it it separating. Found what I wanted, came home shaped it to size and will be ready to install tomorrow, take some pics then.
Another walkabout town this afternoon, post office etc.. then I can relax on a warm afternoon sunny day enjoying my e-reader. This is wonderful, missing Suzie though....
another great day
Now there has been an issue in town about the kids on their dirt bikes making noise. So now they have moved a couple blocks over here, more country and are making noise, having fun, socialing, fresh air and exercise. For an hour or two. What's the big deal?  I think much better than sitting in a house on their computers or paying video games. They are staying out of trouble and being kids. Don't know about you, but I think that is wonderful. They don't do it late at night or early morning, hey its good for them.
they are having a ball,
wish I was there with them
Suzie got  home a bit later so just whipped up a nice salad with a hard boiled egg and leftover chicken for supper, that hit the spot tonight.
yummy
Another fun day here sunshine, warm and keeping very busy, doing what we like, this is the life.
         Than for stopping in.

  1. I have to agree. It is better the kids are outside than spending all day looking at a computer screen. Glad you're having nice weather even though it is a little cool in the morning.

  2. Gotta love those old houses. They are full of character and charm. Don't make them like that anymore.

    1. I have owned 5 very old homes and loved them, the newer ones just seem to lack something, warmth and character.

  3. Interesting your pondering about small town dieing a slow death. We have seen it happen Many places. Alberta is full of them....until an oil company comes along starting drilling around town. When the oil is gone the town dies again. One of the reason why small towns die is that people THINK everything is cheaper to buy in a big box store and because they have CARS. The automobile changed the way small communities functioned. WE buy most of our supplies in local stores and save big time on travel costs. Even though fuel is priced lower now, it still costs money to drive. And we rather have a local store alive than being forced to drive many miles to the next city. Walmart is f.ex. one hour away. Costco is 3hrs away. There you go.

    1. That is so true have been here when this town was always bustling and everybody knew each other, now double the size, it's pretty quiet in comparison.

  4. Dirt bikes was what got me interested in machinery and the rest is history. We need a steady source of new mechanics in the pipeline and this is one way to get them. Nothing to be ashamed about being a motorhead. :c)

    1. The people that complain moved to the country for quiet loving, but complains about the cows, farm tractors and manure smells. That is part of small town living. Sure beats the rat race in the city.
We may be able to take off for a few days soon, things are looking much better.
