Fri. Nov. 11th Remembrance Day

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006

Today in Canada its Remembrance Day and in the USA is Veteran's Day both are celebrating Armistice Day, the end of World War 1 in 1918. Also a day to remember and thank all of those who fought for our country. And the one who comes to my  mind the most is my grandfather who served over seas in WW1 also reserve in WW2 and I remember him telling me how life was back then.

Now my father enlisted in WW2 but was too young to go overseas, and I have memories of two uncles that served in WW2  and many more who served and died for our freedom.

Here at the campground is a special weekend too, to celebrate with half price camping ($30 a night compared to $60, glad we have our membership camping!) , lots of children's activities, flag raising ceremonies all with Veterans Day as the theme.  The resort is getting very busy all day long trailers arriving, towing trailers with golf carts, it seems like every campsite has a golf cart. What ever happened to camping for fresh air and exercise? Most of the children are being driven around the resort to activities.

The afternoon sunshine was great, nice and warm and we were able enjoy much of it with our books and chatting with a few neighbours as they arrived and unpacked all their stuff. We did decide thou that maybe we should maybe start supper a bit earlier than 5 so that I can BBQ without a flashlight. And it worked out wonderful just a bit earlier and I was able to grill some hamburgers for supper with a few fries on the side.
today's craving burger and fries
Now with having supper earlier we have more time to sit and chat after supper, relax with our books and watch a bit of tv, too cold for us to be comfortable outside after dark.

  1. A thoughtful post George. No one in my family served that I was aware of.

  2. Nice memories of Grandad, thanks for sharing. Also Uncle Len and Uncle Al. Look closely at the photo of Grandad and you can see our brother Chris! Paul noticed the resemblance while looking at a photo we have here of Grandad. Cool, eh?!
