Thurs. Apr. 14th 2011, Styx River To Birmingham Alabama

Join us as we travel North America in our Holiday Rambler Vacationer,
 since August 2006
261 miles today
from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m.

We are on the road this morning at 9 am as planned and had a lovely drive north on hwy 59 then I-65 thru Montgomery Alabama to Birmingham. Flying J Travel Plaza. As usual we stopped at all the rest areas every 90 minutes or so, stretch our legs and of course a p break.
today's journey
Passed a few trailers hauling their toys, very custom off road trucks.

One rest area we pulled into was full of RV's, snowbirds heading north 4 license plates from Ontario, one from Illinois and one from Michigan, north northern migration of snowbirds is in full force. We made bite to eat here for lunch and carried on.

A while later passed this early 1950's Studebaker hot rod nicely customized.

Then the Flying J Travel Plaza for fuel always a busy place, gas was $3.57 a gallon or .93 cents a liter not too bad compared to fuel prices back home. Enough driving for today we relax and putter about here.
fueling up
This picture was taken out our kitchen window while everybody was hustling about for gas a busy place here . Notice the school bus with the white roof, a sure sign that it gets hot here in the summer.

On the other side of us was a bunch of people at the side of the road with that huge BBQ, they had no sign out and did not notice anybody stop, must have been a private party.

cooking
We settled in set up our tv did some computing, reading, a walkabout the parking lot and picked up some wings and fingers at the store to go with our left over pizza.

Then as it got a bit darker the traffic slowed down and got quieter, we turned on the tv for a bit before turning in for the night.

  1. I admire you for staying at a Flying J, at least this one had grass. We usually stay at a Walmart for the dogs to have a place to go. Then i usually end up 'shopping'!! However we could never stop at 2PM, we go till closer to 6PM. Safe trip today.

Flying J is convenient and I enjoy the truck stop store. We drove 5 hours, enough for one day. We are at home wear ever we park, can relax, fuel up, walkabout, compute , make supper, watch a bit of tv then start and stop early again.
